Melitta coffee pods, like all other pods, are basically a measured amount of coffee that is wrapped up in a small filter, and designed specifically to fit inside coffee pod brewers. There are many companies that make coffee pods; Melitta is just one of them. Also, instead of the more normal coffee pod name, Melitta calls theirs "javapods".
